Helena Springfield has been part of our house brand portfolio since 2012. This coveted brand has classically been synonymous with timeless elegant designs in understated floral patterns and soft colour palettes.
Spring/Summer 17 has just seen the launch of Helena rebranded with a new invigorated brand identity.
With validity of design always imperative to our design ethos, the design direction Helena has taken sees the passion of our designers brought to the fore. With the 2015 Bedeck 1951 company rebrand, a trip down memory lane waved throughout our design department, as our designers delved into a retrospective look at ‘DESIGN THROUGH THE DECADES’. Given we have a 65 year history to draw from, the Bedeck design archive threw up many a gem, but the pinnacle moment came when our designers turned their attention to fashion textiles in particular. This exploration established the vision for the Helena Springfield 2017 direction.
Inspiration
With mid century fashion, fashion icons, makeup, interiors, culture and lifestyle of the 1940’s, 50 & 60’s a key focus, our Head of Design Julie Hall commissioned research into the era and immersed herself in finding the right vintage pieces to use as a starting point. The ethos was clear from the start; to develop a collection, true to the 40’s, 50’s & 60’s whilst being playful and fun, injected with loads of personality.
Trips to vintage markets; Alfies, Portobello & Spitalfield to seek out interesting finds,(something Julie mused about doing back in her youth whilst working at a design studio in Kensington) museum trips, research into colour palettes to ensure we replicated the authentic faded chalky tones of vintage textiles, the sourcing of flat printed pieces and most insightfully studying the works of Lucienne Day, Robert Stewart & Joyce Badrock key textile designers of the era.

Interior Master-Class with Abigail Ahern
Saturday 1st October 2016
At Bedeck, we live and breathe interiors. The bedroom and bathroom is a constant focus but more recently with the introduction of Murmur back in 2015, our first multi category home-ware brand... we are more now than ever looking at every room in the home.
We travel, we explore and we grow our talent to ensure we deliver designs that sit lovingly in your home.
A recent trip taken by Jill Magowan in our Marketing Department who experts in all things styling when it comes to photo-shoots, trade shows and showrooms was at Abigail Ahern’s master-class day at her beautiful home in London. Described as the ‘High Priestess of Interiors’ Abigail’s master class was a huge source of inspiration and an interesting day of styling research for Jill to use back at Bedeck HQ for many exciting projects coming up in 2017.
Jill gives us a little insight into her exciting trip!
Sat 1st October
Wake up time... 3.30am to drive to Belfast City Airport for my 6.45am flight to London City.
The perfect airport to see all of London from above!
I landed at around 8.30am and I got the DLR line to Stratford... then onto Hackney Central. Then I travelled onto the location by foot.
The Location
The start time was 10am and the weather decided to take a turn for the worst, so it was as quick as I could find the location. Turning down onto the street my phone was navigating me to... Abigail’s House stood out from all the rest. An instant feel could be felt from the road, the building’s exterior a moody grey... a contrast from the pristine white ones surrounding it.

It all started off badly with One Direction splitting and breaking the hearts of young girls across the nation, Pokémon took over our streets, Prince and David Bowie’s phenomenal talent left us and Mary Berry called it a day on the bake off.... a massive bitter or sweet cherry (depending on your viewpoint) to top off 2016, came when Donald Trump, came up trumps in the US election.
A year that divided opinion on political and social fronts but one thing’s for sure it has gave us all much to talk about.
Here at Bedeck we have had a very busy year, doing what we do best. We focus on colour, pattern, floral, mood, texture and very importantly comfort. We nurture our design talent, we research and travel; trips in 2016 included China, Copenhagen and Paris. Season on season we develop and launch new collections, ensuring to bring our customers exactly what they want to suit their home and lifestyle.
So on the wrap up of another busy year, here is our highlight’s from the year that was 2016...Clarissa Hulse
The Launch of The Clarissa Hulse collection in January 2016 was a very exciting addition to our licensed brand portfolio. Clarissa’s work brings together her obsession for colour and nature, the distinct hallmarks of her designs. Working alongside Clarissa our talented designers brought the stunning debut designs to life.

Pantone Colour Predictions for 2017
It seems the leafy green goodness we put in our detox smoothie’s on ‘good intention Mondays’ has left the blitzer and hit the catwalk and home interiors alike.
Kale is evocative of the outdoors, mother-nature, cleanliness and wellbeing. A rich green foliage colour, lush and fertile; which provides the perfect complementary background to the other more vibrant tones for 2017 that sit alongside it in the latest palette.
Conjuring up our desire for nature connection even more and accompanying kale is ‘Greenery’, a more vivacious green hue. Along with warm, muted hazelnut and Pale Dogwood; soft blues Island Paradise and Niagara, and the more zingy tones Primrose Yellow, Lapis Blue, Flame and Pink Yarrow complete the trend.
Primrose Yellow 13-0755: A buttery, sunny yellow and was seen throughout the runway collections.
Pale Dogwood 13-1404: As per the flower it’s named after, dogwood is a muted shade of dusky pink.

With creative trips a must for our ever artistic Design Team and hot on the heels of our Shanghai exploration in June, wonderful Copenhagen was planned in for July to ramble, explore and be whole heartedly inspired!
Known as the world’s happiest City, Copenhagen seemed like the perfect next stop for a summer creative design trip.
With instant storybook charm, the Design Team quickly fell in love... greeted by quaint cobbled streets, the charm of locals cycling about their day on vintage bicycles, past the iconic rainbow painted houses.
Copenhagen was a dream, a feast for the senses, an atmospheric city that just had to be admired in the most calm, slow living fashion.
Understanding why this city was dubbed the happiest in the world really wasn’t hard to understand from the offset.
Day 1
After a busy morning of travel the Designers thought the perfect place to start would be; Nyhavn, Copenhagen’s most iconic district. Nyhavn’s idyllic row of colourful houses was as pretty as a postcard.
