With the SS19 launch of the new Joules collection Rebecca Collingridge from Joules discusses the collaboration with Bedeck season on season as we bring to life their signature prints to bedding designs
The Joules creative teams travelled to Wells Beach, Norfolk for Inspiration for this season’s collection. Blustery walks turned to picnics on the beach, venturing out to the potting shed and down into the garden - a journey that saw them gather inspiration along the way.

The end of year reveal from Pantone for the colour of the year is an annual wait of anticipation. Following on from 2018’s majestic ‘Ultra Violet’ and 2017’s ‘Greenery’, the reveal of ‘Living Coral’ as 2019’s colour of the year has been described by Pantone as “life affirming” with a “golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge”
A soft pinky peach colour, calm and nurturing which works across all seasons, if you think tropical/sunset inspired hues through the summer months and moodier earthy terracotta tones through the winter – the versatility of this colour can be coordinated beautifully with colours throughout the same colour family.
The 2019 choice also highlights that the best colours come from nature. The leafy green hue of 2017 also testament to that. The inspiration source also draws attention to the beauty of coral reefs along with their fragility and delicacy which we should always protect.
Ongoing for the past 20 years, Pantones Colour of the Year has guided and influenced decisions across many industries including fashion and home furnishings. Here at Bedeck we love to keep an eye on the colour reveal and see how the filtering trend has subconsciously influenced our upcoming collections well in advance of its December reveal.
Here is how we will be incorporating ‘Living Coral’ into our bedding & accessories for 2019...

Inspiration
Autumn / Winter 18 saw the re-launch of our successful brand Bedeck 1951 to Bedeck of Belfast. With an extensive sixty seven year history, we started business back in 1951 as a linen handkerchief manufacturer and it’s with this knowledge & heritage we delve into the history and craftsmanship of Belfast’s long linen legacy, bringing you a collection of bed, bath and window solutions re-imagined for the here and now.
Looking Back
The Victorian era was renowned for exploration and industry; the discovery of new diverse cultures, goods and traditions, supported by the booming advances of manufacturing which brought vigour and colour to Britain. Belfast, in particular, experienced a golden age under Queen Victoria and in 1888 it was granted city status, cementing itself as one of the world’s leading industrial cities. Renowned for its linen – often called Linenopolis - it became the linen capital of the world.
The Collection
It is with this knowledge we’ve set about celebrating Belfast’s linen history and trading routes through our collections. Our logo; the symbolic seahorse, which has been included within Belfast’s coat of arms since 1613 when Belfast was granted town status by King James. Like an island, Ireland is surrounded by the sea and its waves of opportunity and it is with this outward perspective A/W 18’s inaugural collection is inspired by India and ‘Namaste’ the respectful Hindu greeting. This homage is a balanced combination of earthy colours, intricate craftsmanship and traditional printing techniques, reinterpreted for the contemporary home.
Authenticity
Bringing authenticity to everything we do sent us on a search for the right photography location here in the North of Ireland. Discovering a location close to the shores of Strangford Lough, presented the perfect space. A Victorian Italianate Palazzo style property; full of history has been owned by the Mulholland Family for over 150 years. The current owner Lord Dunleath explained how the house

It was with this thinking that our savvy designers went about the design process for Helena Springfield Resort, working with designs and colour-ways that could be mixed and matched within their colour stories, allowing you to curate the look, mix throws, cushion and curtains to create that certain 'Je ne sais quoi' in your own home.
Think soothing tropical greens, mesmerizing oceanic blues to Sahara inspired yellows. Resort encapsulates that holiday feel; relaxed, colourful and affluent. Inspired by our favourite retreats - taking us from the lush tropics of the Maldives; to the fiery African Serengeti; to lounging in luxury along the French Riviera
Taking a retrospective look back and revisiting the very style sported by the upper echelons of society, an array of patterns were explored from the stripes to checks, botanical patterns and motifs each developing the four key themes of the collection; nautical, oceanic, safari and tropical. Artworks were hand painted without our in-house design studio presenting a collection that sings with vibrancy, with a pattern in confident colour-ways that brings that feeling of leisurely resort chic to your home.

It all started off badly with One Direction splitting and breaking the hearts of young girls across the nation, Pokémon took over our streets, Prince and David Bowie’s phenomenal talent left us and Mary Berry called it a day on the bake off.... a massive bitter or sweet cherry (depending on your viewpoint) to top off 2016, came when Donald Trump, came up trumps in the US election.
A year that divided opinion on political and social fronts but one thing’s for sure it has gave us all much to talk about.
Here at Bedeck we have had a very busy year, doing what we do best. We focus on colour, pattern, floral, mood, texture and very importantly comfort. We nurture our design talent, we research and travel; trips in 2016 included China, Copenhagen and Paris. Season on season we develop and launch new collections, ensuring to bring our customers exactly what they want to suit their home and lifestyle.
So on the wrap up of another busy year, here is our highlight’s from the year that was 2016...Clarissa Hulse
The Launch of The Clarissa Hulse collection in January 2016 was a very exciting addition to our licensed brand portfolio. Clarissa’s work brings together her obsession for colour and nature, the distinct hallmarks of her designs. Working alongside Clarissa our talented designers brought the stunning debut designs to life.
Bedeck 1951
The rebranded Bedeck 1951 collections went from strength to strength in 2016 with the new designs being greatly received by press and customers. The S/S 16 Damara bed was inspired by a striking fusion of ethic designs and rich colour palettes to create the ultimate bedroom treat.
The A/W 16 designs were inspired by the unique, vibrant heritages of Venice and Cuba. Both seasons had featured advertising in publications such as House Beautiful, Ideal Home & Elle Decoration.

Pantone Colour Predictions for 2017
It seems the leafy green goodness we put in our detox smoothie’s on ‘good intention Mondays’ has left the blitzer and hit the catwalk and home interiors alike.
Kale is evocative of the outdoors, mother-nature, cleanliness and wellbeing. A rich green foliage colour, lush and fertile; which provides the perfect complementary background to the other more vibrant tones for 2017 that sit alongside it in the latest palette.
Conjuring up our desire for nature connection even more and accompanying kale is ‘Greenery’, a more vivacious green hue. Along with warm, muted hazelnut and Pale Dogwood; soft blues Island Paradise and Niagara, and the more zingy tones Primrose Yellow, Lapis Blue, Flame and Pink Yarrow complete the trend.
Primrose Yellow 13-0755: A buttery, sunny yellow and was seen throughout the runway collections.
Pale Dogwood 13-1404: As per the flower it’s named after, dogwood is a muted shade of dusky pink.
Island Paradise 14-4620: Likened to a tropical, airy blue, this is the ultimate colour associated with paradise.
Greenery 15-0343: A vivacious yellow-green shade perfect for brightening up autumn.
Flame 17-1462: An easy zesty colour to pair with a variety of colours bright or moody.
Pink Yarrow 17-2034: Vibrant and bold, bordering on a magenta tone, the perfect bright for fashion and home.
Niagara 17-4123: This soft blue hue has been ‘dreamlike.’
Lapis Blue 19-4045: A touch brighter than your average navy tone ‘Lapis Blue’ is similar to the stone lapis lazuli, bright and sophisticated.
The seasonal predictions are made following on from the runway collections at New York Fashion Week year on year, and applied to fashion, home interiors and anything else with huge colour impression!
Prepare yourself for these colours to make impact in 2017; it looks like next year will be as cool and colourful as we all hoped and not forgetting ‘healthy’ with Kale keeping us all on the ‘Wellbeing’ track!

With creative trips a must for our ever artistic Design Team and hot on the heels of our Shanghai exploration in June, wonderful Copenhagen was planned in for July to ramble, explore and be whole heartedly inspired!
Known as the world’s happiest City, Copenhagen seemed like the perfect next stop for a summer creative design trip.
With instant storybook charm, the Design Team quickly fell in love... greeted by quaint cobbled streets, the charm of locals cycling about their day on vintage bicycles, past the iconic rainbow painted houses.
Copenhagen was a dream, a feast for the senses, an atmospheric city that just had to be admired in the most calm, slow living fashion.
Understanding why this city was dubbed the happiest in the world really wasn’t hard to understand from the offset.
Day 1
After a busy morning of travel the Designers thought the perfect place to start would be; Nyhavn, Copenhagen’s most iconic district. Nyhavn’s idyllic row of colourful houses was as pretty as a postcard.
Although thronged with tourists the setting on the side of the canal seemed somewhat relaxing. (Perhaps it’s the water!)
The perfect spot to check out first... and the ice-cream is very good too!
Onwards then to the Danish Design Museum to check out the graphics exhibition allowing the team to peruse a variety of vintage textile designs across ceramics, fashion & the history of scandi interiors.
The fashion and textile collection is one of Denmark’s largest and finest collections of Danish and international fashion and textile designdating back further than the museum’s fashion collection and represents peak achievements in most areas of textile art from the Renaissance until today.
Day 2
On day two it was time to head to Glyptoteket Fine Art Museum. The team absorbed the works of Gauguin the French Impressionist who’s work concentrates on colour with inspiration taken from cultures around the world.
Top tip for anyone visiting the Glyptoteket, is to visit the Cafe Glyptoteket,
