What does Tog mean? - A Bedeck Guide

SPRING HAS WELL AND TRULY SPRUNG! The season of long and cold nights is over us. So, for many it's about time to think about changing that heavy duvet for something a bit lighter...

<img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Tog bedeck" src="{{media url="/tog_2.jpg"}}" alt="Tog" />

This can be a confusing task when you don't know exactly what 'TOG' means. There are alot of misconceptions about
TOG but hopefully our explanation below will make it alot clearer for you!

     TOG TIP

     " The tog of a duvet indicates a duvets warmth level and is not
       an indicator of weight quality or value for money"

Have a look at the table below to see how TOG ratings are split into seasons -

Most people expect a higher Tog rating to then represent a larger and thicker duvet. This is not the case, as the Tog
rating is based mainly on the duvets capacity to trap warm air. This varies from duvet to duvet depending on the material
used as fill.

Natural fillings have better thermal properties than those of a synthetic duvet, therefore they will be just as warm but
perhaps won't be as bulky.

So all you really need to remember is this - TOG = WARMTH

  4.5 Tog

   A lightweight duvet for use in the Summer.

   For use in the Spring/Autumn.

The Secret to a Perfect Nights Sleep...

Ever wondered the secret to a good nights sleep? With most of us juggling busy work and personal lives, a perfect night’s sleep can make all the difference.

<img title="Good nights sleep Bedeck" src="{{media url="/wordcloud.jpg"}}" alt="" width="685" />

Bedeck commissioned a survey of 2,000 adults who claim to enjoy a wonderful sleep every night for the answer... The survey shows that what we do in the evening has an impact on the night ahead – with most people ensuring they have at least two hours ‘down time’ before hitting the sack.

<img title="Bedeck bedding" src="{{media url="/bedlady.jpg"}}" alt="Bedeck bedding" width="685" />

The average person will watch at least an hour and three quarters of television, opting for soap operas or comedy quiz shows. Although much of the night is spent watching television, the average person will also surf the net for 51 minutes and spend 41 minutes chatting with a partner or on the phone to family or friends.

Those who have mastered the art of getting a good night’s sleep will finish their evening meal an hour and 31 minutes before going to bed and have their final drink, usually a cup of tea at 9.10pm. The actual time we go to bed is important too, with most people ensuring they get a healthy eight or nine hours a night.

And when going to bed, we have another 20 minutes rest time before finally falling asleep at 10:26pm with more than a third of those surveyed opting to wear pyjamas.

Of course, there are many things you can change instantly to improve your nights sleep such as changing your pillow, the right pillow is essential for a good nights sleep and no two people have the same requirements when it comes to choosing a pillow. It all comes down to the softness and level of support you require. The different types available are as follows -

Feather & Down Pillows - These natural pillows give you more support, with more feathers giving you more support.

Polyester fibre based Pillows - The main advantage to these pillows is that they are non-allergenic.

The same goes for choosing the correct duvet, whether you prefer a lightweight duvet or you need a non-allergenic material. Choosing the correct duvet can really enhance a good nights sleep!

Why not try these tips this evening in your home and see if you too can have the perfect night’s sleep, ready to bounce out of bed tomorrow morning!

The Bedeck survey was featured across many media outlets recently...read more here -

Bedeck present...The trends for 2012/2013 from Heimtextil

January, the start of a New Year and time for the annual Heimtextil Trade Show in Frankfurt, Germany. Heimtextil is the International Trade Fair for Home and Contract Textiles. This show gives our designers at Bedeck an insight into the upcoming trends for the year.

For 2012/2013, fashion colours are making a big impact in the bedroom with a strong presence of plums, pink, lime and grey. In terms of pattern, florals remain prominent with the combination of large scale single blossoms with smaller scale all over floral patterns. Bold, clear patterns with a graphic sensibility are present in forms of black and white and also with the addition of grey and citrus tones.

Bedeck’s Altuza showcases this trend perfectly. Bright, bold and contemporary, this design pairs graphic print in citrus shades with soft shades of grey. For that added luxury, Altuza is printed onto 250TC Cotton Sateen Jacquard weave.

<img title="altuza luxury designer bedding bedeck" src="{{media url="/Bedeck-Altuza.jpg"}}" alt="altuza luxury designer bedding bedeck" width="690" height="690" />

Strong jewel like colours such as plum and amethyst are lightened with subtle lustre and bright colour accents, while a subtle tone-in-tone pattern adds sophistication to a room without becoming too dominant in the room. A great example of this is Bedeck’s Ferretti.

This design epitomises vintage glamour with a luxurious stonewash jacquard accentuated with elegantly embroidered pillowcases and cushions, providing a beautiful mix of colour, pattern and texture which can be seen across many of the Bedeck New Season ranges.

<img title="Ferretti luxury bedding bedeck" src="{{media url="/Bedeck-Ferretti.jpg"}}" alt="Ferretti luxury bedding bedeck" width="690" height="690" />

Strong patterns and colours are becoming more apparent in towels to co-ordinate with the bedlinen with stripes and graphic patterns being the most popular. Bedeck’s Cadiz towels and robe illustrate a perfect combination of an ikat striped pattern with a rich colour palette.

Bedeck present...The Colour of 2012!

<img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Tango Tangerine" src="{{media url="/pantone_0.jpg"}}" alt="17-1463" />

Pantone have introduced Tangerine Tango 17-1463 as the Colour of 2012 following on from the success of last year’s colour, Honeysuckle 18-2120.

This vivid, rich colour has been chosen to lift our moods and confidence during these tough economic times. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute® describes the colour as “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

This colour trend can easily be used within the home to give you a burst of colour and energy! Try using Tangerine Tango coloured touches within a room, a cushion or throw for an instant effect or if you are feeling very energetic, paint a wall for a real injection of colour!

We would love to hear your thoughts on this colour and how you plan to use it!

Influences behind the Designs >> Suzani

Our inspiration this season for Bedeck “Suzani” bed linen was taken from the flamboyant traditional embroidered textiles from central Asia known as “Suzanis” ...... these beautiful, highly decorative patterns are currently bang on trend!!!

  The focus for our colour direction was based on Iznik tiles and the concentrated tones of cobalt, royal, navy, through to azure, jade and deep turquoise; when printed on our luxurious cotton sateen, the vibrancy of these colours really come to life and further enhance this stunning design.”

<img title="Suzani Bedlinen" src="{{media url="/suzanimood_1.jpg"}}" alt="Suzani Bedlinen" />

[ Taken from Wikipedia ] –

Suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative tribal textile made in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. Suzanis usually have a cotton (sometimes silk) fabric base, which is embroidered in silk or cotton thread. Chain, satin, and buttonhole stitches are the primary stitches used. Popular design motifs include sun and moon disks, flowers (especially tulips, carnations, and irises), leaves and vines, fruits (especially pomegranates), and occasional fish and birds.

Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and were presented to the groom on the wedding day.

Influences behind the Designs >> Merrell

The Merrell concept was inspired by a trend initially picked up whilst on a trip to New York...this was based on
taking a classic jacquard design and giving it a contemporary twist by mixing with 'metallic's' . You can see
how we generated ideas by looking at the moodboard below...

<img title="Mood Board" src="{{media url="/MoodBoardweb.jpg"}}" alt="Mood Board" width="600" />

The brief for the jacquard was to weave a beautiful fabric that would shimmer like beaten silver, yet feel soft and
luxurious to the touch! To further enhance this look the bed was accessorised with crisp white cotton p`cases
embroidered with metallic yarns, then layered with a throw and cushions designed using a mix of silks and
sculptured velvets.

<img title="Bedeck Merrell" src="{{media url="/merrell_1_1.jpg"}}" alt="Bedeck Merrell" width="600" />
