Thread Count

This is a measure of the number of threads woven together in a square inch of fabric. Both the warp (lengthwise) and weft (width) are counted and this helps to explain how closely woven the fabric is. It is not a guarantee of quality, this is dependent on the standard of the yarns used in the fabric.

68 Pick

Whilst this is not as luxurious as percale it is still a fine quality for bedding with 68 threads per square inch as opposed to 180 threads in a percale.

Percale

Percale is more tightly woven than standard fabrics normally used for bedding and has a minimum of 180 threads per square inch. The fibres have been combed prior to weaving which removes any shorter staples to produce a fine, smooth fabric that is comfortable to sleep on and will launder well.   

Pima Cotton

A superior quality cotton that was originally cultivated in Peru. It is combed to remove the rougher, shorter staples to produce a fine, luxuriously smooth fabric that has a beautifully soft drape and handle.

Egyptian Cotton

Egyptian cotton is regarded as one of the finest cottons available. It is made from extra long staples/ fibres which in turn produce a luxuriously soft, smooth bed linen that should last for years.

Panama Cotton

A heavier weight, hard wearing textured cotton used for curtains.

Jacquard

Jacquard weaves are produced on specific looms that create intricate raised effect patterns within the fabric.

Sateen

Sateen is a type of weave structure normally characterised by having four threads above and one under. More threads on the surface of the fabric result in a luxuriously soft cloth with a subtle sheen. Sateen is not as hard wearing as other weaves and therefore requires careful laundering. 

Matelasse

Matelasse is meant to mimic a style of French hand stitched quilts. It is actually a weaving technique that creates a pattern in heavy weight cotton that appears to be quilted but does not actually contain any padding.  

Appliqué

A decorative technique using pieces of fabric cut out and attached in decorative patterns onto a base fabric. 

Digital Printing

Digital printing is a method of printing from a digital based image.  It creates multicoloured images yet the fabric remains softer to handle than surface printed fabrics.

Towels - Explaining the details

GSM 

GSM (grammes per square meter) is the standard unit of measurement for the weight of towels.

Medium weight towels are on average around 500gsm with heavier towels around 700gsm. Weight is not the only measure of quality, it is also important to consider the type of yarn used in the towel.

Zero Twist Towels

A weaving technique that creates a towel with yarns that are not twisted to create a wonderfully lightweight, soft towel that is fast drying.  

Duvets - Explaining the details

Down

Down clusters come from the breast of the bird and have excellent natural insulation properties. Their unique ability to trap warm air makes them excellent at regulating body temperature and keeping you comfortable at night. As down clusters are very lightweight they create light, comfortable duvets that drape over the body.

Feather

Microfibre

Synthetic duvets are best for anyone suffering from allergies. They do not contain any feather or down and are manufactured from materials that are not known to cause an allergic reaction. They can be heavier than feather and down and will not last as long as the natural alternatives.

Tog Rating

Tog rating is not an indication of quality but a guide to the insulation properties of the duvet. The higher the tog rating, the better the duvets ability to trap warm air and keep you warm throughout the night. Down and feather fillings are naturally better at this than synthetic options. Before deciding on a tog rating you must also consider some other factors including the time of year, if you share a bed and the ambient temperature of your bedroom. You may need to use a duvet with lower tog rating in the summer months.

Taken from Sanderson’s Pavilion print design that draws inspiration from 18th Century Chinoiserie wallpapers; Pavilion’s finely detailed floral design perfectly captures the essence of an English garden.
The duvet cover and oxford pillowcase are finished with a pink cord piped edge and reverse to a simple co-ordinating stripe.

The housewife pillowcase and sateen cushion feature an elegant embroidered floral trail, with a beautifully soft parchment coloured matelasse throw adding a subtle contrast of texture and pattern to the collection.  Co-ordinating curtains are also available.

Always read the care label

This sounds simple but is essential to ensure that any specific instructions about caring for your bed linen are followed correctly.

Regular Washing

Wash your bed linen once a week, even more in hot weather. This will keep it fresh, comfortable to sleep in and will help to kill dust mites (essential for anyone suffering from allergies).

Handle With Care

Take care when changing your bedding so that it is not torn or damaged in the process. Remember to turn it inside out before washing it to protect the colour and any decorative trims or detailing. Wash darks and light colours separately. Always use a coloured washing powder for coloured bedding and keep your whites looking pristine by using a washing powder specifically formulated for white fabrics. Remove bed linen from the machine promptly when the washing cycle is complete as this will reduce wrinkling.  Never wash your bed linen with other garments that could catch and damage it like zips or Velcro fastenings.

Finishing Touches

Don’t over dry your bed linen as this will make it more difficult to iron. Always iron at the specified temperature on the care label with a good steam iron or use a water sprayer if you need a bit of extra help. Iron on the reverse to protect any detailing like embroidery or appliqué.

Caring for your towels

We have listed some handy hints and tips to ensure your Bedeck towels remain soft and luxuriously fluffy:

  - Wash your new towels before you use them as this will help to improve their absorbency
  
  
  - Follow the washing instructions on the care label and don’t use detergents with bleaching agents as this could affect the colour 
  
  
  - Wash dark and light colours separately
  
  
  - Limit the use of fabric conditioner used on your towels as this will reduce their absorbency
  
  
  - Remove towels promptly from the machine and shake well
  
  
  - Use a medium heat setting on your tumble dryer so that towels remain soft and fluffy without becoming too hard
  
  
  - Store your towels out of direct sunlight so they do not fade
  
  
  - Do not pull any loose threads from your towels – simply trim them off instead

Berry Tree

Blocks

This fun, retro-geometric design features an assortment of multi-coloured blocks offset against a plain background. Dragonfly

This is a dramatic statement design of a painterly dragonfly with a simple sketched body and fragile wings.  Available in three sizes (double, king and superking), the dramatic duvet cover has three rows of oversized, stylised indigo dragonflies on the front and a complementary allover denim effect reverse, finished off with navy piping. The oxford pillowcase has a central dragonfly motif and a plain white reverse, whilst the housewife pillowcase mirrors the allover texture of the duvet cover’s reverse. Flight

A glorious nod to retro, depicting silhouetted birds in flight, soaring through a cloudless, summer sky.  The front of the duvet cover features this charming allover motif whilst the reverse has a blue vertical stripe and white piping. The oxford pillowcase has a motif resembling birds flying in from the corner, with a plain white reverse; the striped housewife pillowcase mirrors the reverse of the duvet cover. The quilted throw also features this vertical stripe, whilst the square cushion is a mix of multi-coloured appliqué and embroidery in the quirky form of beach huts!

Lace Stripe

 A sophisticated stripe in moody shades of greys and neutrals, inspired by a numberof motifs in Melinki, as well encapsulating the overall ‘vibe’ of the collection. The front of the duvet cover features elegant horizontal stripes of pattern, with the reverse in the Lace design of symmetrical, interlocking geometric motifs inspired by the structure of lace. The oxford pillowcase is printed with vertical stripes and the housewife option has the allover lace pattern. The plain coloured slate throw has a contrasting reverse and binding, with the Lace motif being picked out in self-coloured quilting. This can be a confusing task when you don't know  exactly what 'TOG' means. There are alot of misconceptions about 
TOG but hopefully our explanation below will make it alot clearer for you!

Have a look at the table below to see how TOG ratings are split into seasons -

Most people expect a higher Tog rating to then represent a larger and thicker duvet. This is not the case, as the Tog 
rating is based mainly on the duvets capacity to trap warm air. This varies from duvet to duvet depending on the material 
used as fill. 

Natural fillings have better thermal properties than those of a synthetic duvet, therefore they will be just as warm but 
perhaps won't be as bulky.

So all you really need to remember is this - TOG = WARMTH

Bedeck commissioned a survey of 2,000 adults who claim to enjoy a wonderful sleep every night for the answer... The survey shows that what we do in the evening has an impact on the night ahead – with most people ensuring they have at least two hours ‘down time’ before hitting the sack.

The average person will watch at least an hour and three quarters of television, opting for soap operas or comedy quiz shows. Although much of the night is spent watching television, the average person will also surf the net for 51 minutes and spend 41 minutes chatting with a partner or on the phone to family or friends.

Those who have mastered the art of getting a good night’s sleep will finish their evening meal an hour and 31 minutes before going to bed and have their final drink, usually a cup of tea at 9.10pm. The actual time we go to bed is important too, with most people ensuring they get a healthy eight or nine hours a night.

And when going to bed, we have another 20 minutes rest time before finally falling asleep at 10:26pm with more than a third of those surveyed opting to wear pyjamas.

Of course, there are many things you can change instantly to improve your nights sleep such as changing your pillow, the right pillow is essential for a good nights sleep and no two people have the same requirements when it comes to choosing a pillow. It all comes down to the softness and level of support you require. The different types available are as follows -

Feather & Down Pillows - These natural pillows give you more support, with more feathers giving you more support.

Polyester fibre based Pillows - The main advantage to these pillows is that they are non-allergenic. 

The same goes for choosing the correct duvet, whether you prefer a lightweight duvet or you need a non-allergenic material. Choosing the correct duvet can really enhance a good nights sleep!
