Blissful Bedding: How to Create Hotel Luxury in your bedroom

Creating a sanctuary as luxurious and restful as a boutique, world class hotel may seem like a costly and exhausting job but there are a few basic principles from which to build et voila you have the four seasons within your own four walls.

Under the sheets

A great quality mattress is the first place to start but equally important for comfort are a high quality mattress protector, duvet and pillows. A mattress protector not only extends the life of your mattress by protecting it but enhances your sleep experience by adding a plush cushioning layer which has been likened to ‘sleeping on a pillow’. A feather duvet is the last word in a luxurious sleep routine but there are excellent microfibre alternatives whose extra fine synthetic fibres that feel and perform like down. Finally our range of pillows caters for every preference from soft and feather-filled Siberian Down to Memory foam pillows which mould to your head and neck for the utmost support. For more information please refer to our buying guide.

The sheets

Hotel luxury is encapsulated in high quality bed linen, namely sheets with a high thread count. Traditionally, crisp white sheets are favoured for an authentic ‘Hotel’ look with throws and cushions adding colour and texture. Many modern and boutique hotels are starting to favour more colourful sheets nowadays however and this is reflected in the varying designs offered by our hotel collections. So long as the sheets are of the highest quality, the style and colour are completely down to personal preference.

Co-ordinate

Hotels are meticulously designed and your room should be no different. It isn’t necessary to have a completely matching suite of furniture; in fact mixing up different pieces can give your interior a rustic and bespoke look, but it is important to ensure your furniture compliments each other. Again, matching curtains and bed linens can look very smart, it is not essential to giving your bedroom a five star feel. Just ensure the colourways and textures are complimentary of each other and work together to give your bedroom a rich and sumptuous feel.

Layer & Embellish

Finally, what makes a boutique hotel remarkable is its intention to detail. Find a focal art piece, perhaps a unique piece picked up on your travels or a classic print you’ve always loved. Equally a beautifully framed picture of your family is a lovely way to embellish your room and add a personal touch. Finally, scented candles, fresh flowers, plush rugs  and decorative touches such as woven baskets or ornamental vases and figurines bring a dimension of opulence.

Chocolates on the pillow? Optional.

A guide to choosing Thread Counts

Choosing the perfect bed linen is the first step in ensuring a great night’s sleep and luxurious bedroom interior. To ensure you make the right decision for your needs, Bedeck has compiled a handy guide to thread counts, weaves and bedding materials.

Thread Count

Simply put, thread count refers to how many threads are woven into each square inch of fabric. The standard thread count is around 150-thread count and good-quality sheets start at around 180-thread count. All Bedeck bedlinen carries a minimum of 180-thread count with most of our premium ranges, such as Murmur and Fable boasting up to 300-thread count. In addition to this, we stock the highest quality sheets in thread counts of up to 600.

Choosing your cotton

100% Cotton sheets are the healthiest options as well as the most comfortable. Cotton naturally absorbs the body’s moisture, allowing your skin to breathe during the night and for your temperature to be more effectively regulated. Also, Cotton is hypoallergenic so will not result in any reactions that your body may encounter when faced with a man-made material such as polyester. Pima cotton is made with a fine, long-staple cotton resulting in an extremely soft weave.

Egyptian cotton is made from the finest cotton resulting the utmost in luxury and softness. The finer threads allow for the highest thread count available.

Polycotton is a combination of polyester and cotton which makes for a durable, lightweight and easily maintained fabric. It has the moisture absorbing properties of cotton as well as the easy/non-iron properties of polyester.

Percale, Sateen, & Jaquard weaves

The way a fabric is woven has an impact on the overall finish.

Percale is a fabric woven in a criss-cross fashion, with the warp (the vertical threads) crossing the weft (the horizontal threads) an equal amount of times. A warp beam is set up with threads at the back of the machine and a "shuttle" passes through this "row" of yarns going left to right, right to left alternately with the weft threads, creating the fabric's weave. The tightly woven threads result in a fine texture and finish.

Sateen is a fabric woven by interweaving the weft (the horizontal threads) with filling threads, resulting in a higher thread count and an extremely soft and smooth fabric. Shuttleless and air jet looms are now used for the insertion of weft in these finer fabrics for an even more luxurious result.

We ensure that all our linen is not only luxurious but will look like new for a long, long time. Our specialists have stringent tests for light and colour-fastness, strength and resistance to pilling.
